Living Green Marketplace meets Jeffrey Sachs at the Unite For Sight conference
Apr 14, 2008

Yale University, CT

Dr. Jeffery Sachs, author of “Common Wealth” and advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, spoke to undergraduate students, nonprofits, and medical professionals on how we can unite together to create global health solutions for humanity. Dr. Sachs’ work focuses on eradicating poverty all over the world and finding global cooperation to solve common problems. His message to students is… there is enough on this planet for all of us. Let’s start making choices that consider all of the people inhabiting our earth.

It was inspiring to see so many undergraduate students attending the conference and learning about how they can help our world and lessen human suffering. Many of the projects presented at Unite for Sight focused on taking care of pregnant mothers and babies. To do this, we must take extra care of the planet where our children grow up. We can do this through choosing organic products that help workers all over the world make a living in a chemical- free or low-toxicity environment. We can also make a difference by selecting items that are Fair Trade certified. This helps families around the world get paid a fair wage for their labor so that they may be better able to afford health care for their families. This can help combat preventable diseases like eye infections leading to blindness in children, Malaria, Tuberculosis, and many others. Also consider supporting nonprofits that work to improve the lives of families and children all over the world. If you want to learn more about the Unite for Sight Conference click here.
